Intergenerational Community Center

A community-driven space designed for New Orleans’ intergenerational population. The center includes a fitness room, a library, and an auditorium. Each of these spaces hosts programs for different age groups, which rotate throughout the day. For example, while the library has a children’s read-aloud, the fitness room runs an adult yoga session. In addition, the main space offers plenty of seating and features a coffee shop which serves popular New Orleans drinks as well as some pastries and snacks. Community members can use this space to study and get work done.

The Batture

This proposed community center is built on the batture, in an old shipyard that was family-owned for centuries. This land is currently being redefined as a public space, home to restaurants, offices, and the new community center, transforming a historically industrial site into a place of gathering, creativity, and care. The reuse of the shipyard honors the past while opening the space to serve the evolving needs of the city.
